Hands-On with DJI’s Inspire 1 Quadcopter
DJI’s new quadcopter is one of the coolest we’ve seen–a huge upgrade from the current Phantom 2 Vision+ we’ve been using. The Inspire 1 can record 4K video, lifts its propeller struts, and transmit clear HD video to the pilot. We chat in-depth with Eric Cheng, DJI’s Director of Aerial Imaging, about all the new features in the Inspire 1 and then take it out for a test flight!

What a week. From the passing of cultural icons like Nichelle Nichols and Bill Russell to the chaos around the Batgirl movie, we could take a breath to process major news as it broke from minute to minute. We discuss our hopes for the future of HBO Max and DC, get pumped for Andor, and get an extended return of A Moment of Science!

Wow. That is a fantastic upgrade!
They’ve started posting videos from the live show, so you’ll get a closer look soon 🙂
That is a huge leap from the Phantom.
What an epic device… Cool company as well.
Cool video. Are you guys still legally uncertain about showing/shooting RC aircraft on the site because of potential commercial implications? I think it was last week’s episode of “This is Only a Test” that Will mentioned that. Is there a difference between shooting your own stuff vs recording other people doing it?
I was really looking forward to some Fun Flight Friday videos with the Vision+. I watched the 3d Robotics build video too and was looking forward to more videos of that beyond the one that was posted on the insanely windy day.
Cool video, Guys.
But, please take one out and fly it some place more scenic than the roof of Adam’s shop in the Mission.. 🙏
Man, if it only could handle something like a A7s or GH4.
I want to see the zoom back video from the end as taken on the rig! Is that possible?
Never have I wanted to spend $3400 dollars on, what would essentially amount to the most bad ass toy ever for myself, so badly. I have no business in owning on of these, but I WANT ONE SO BAD!
Awesome product. They use a rectilinear lens on the camera, but do they do any processing on the image at all? A group of us are using a rectilinear lens for image processing and we have yet to work out the lens model.
The Inspire looks awesome! I just purchased a Phantom 2 Vision+ about 2 weeks ago without knowing about the Inspire. Pretty dumb I know. I was wondering if it was worth it to sell back my 2 Vision+? I know the Inspire has a way better camera and it must be much easier to control but I don’t know if it’s worth the price difference. Also, do people even buy used Phantoms? lol I’m new to all of this. Someone help me! Here’s a review that sold me on the Phantom 2 by the way, just in case anyone is interested. Happy dronin’ 🙂

So far the information on Savage’s quadcopter gear is terrifically interesting, but I’d really like to know more about the EVF setup he has for framing video and still photos with the Inspire 1. I’m unable to find any specifics on how to get the EVF hooked into the iPad/Inspire 4V camera…anyone have any ideas as to how that is accomplished?
