Hands-On with Valve Index VR Headset!

We recently visited Valve to preview the new Valve Index virtual reality headset! Back in our studio, we give our impressions of the headset and Index controllers (aka Knuckles), as well as talk through the technical advances that make this a potentially significant improvement over the current generation of VR headsets.

  1. Great review! It answers the questions I had.

I have played with the Leap Motion and personally I don’t think just hand tracking is the way to go (unless the experience is supposed to model something hands-free). It just feels off picking things up by doing a pinching motion. My mind kind of tricks my hand into feeling like I am trying to pick up things made of very light foam.

  2. I agree. The experiences I enjoyed most with Leap Motion were when I was supposed to have some kind of magic power, not when I was supposed to physically touch something.

  3. I ordered my first gen Vive when the pro was just released. I just couldn’t justify the added expense of the pro. With this headset at $500 and no REAL need to update the rest of my hardware it’s a no brainier for me. I just placed my reservation!
