Grant Imahara’s Scratch-Built Hoverboard

For the 2016 Netflix series White Rabbit Project, Grant Imahara was tasked with designing and building the personal hovercraft we’ve been promised in movies for decades, which OF COURSE he did! Friend and former colleague Fon Davis of Fonco Studios shows Adam this resulting amazing (albeit terrifying) engineering triumph.

Grant Imahara’s R2D2 Replica!

Grant Imahara’s AMAZING R2D2 replica came about after 10 ILM employees — including Adam Savage and Fon Davis — banded together in 2000 to build their very own R2 droids from scratch. It was a gigantic undertaking, even for those working with the real R2! Fon and Adam take a tour of Grant’s replica and recall the loooong journey that led up to the collaboration’s completion.

Warning: This video is shaky. Our camera’s eyepiece broke just before filming, and we were trying to adjust to using the camera without it. The R2 unit is no longer at Fonco Studios (it is back with Grant’s mom), so we’re unfortunately unable to reshoot the interview. Our apologies for the shaky video!

Grant Imahara’s Battlebot Deadblow

Both Fon Davis and Adam Savage have a long history with Grant Imahara’s infamous combat robot Deadblow. Join Adam and Fon in Grant’s shop as they reminiscence about Grant and Battlebots, and marvel over Deadblow’s very precise internal workings.

Grant Imahara’s Animatronic Grogu Replica

One of Grant’s last major projects is his animatronic “Baby Yoda,” a collaboration with prop artisan Lauren Markland and costumer Lindsay Hamilton. Lauren explains to Adam Savage how she and Grant built this “happiness maker” (in just three months!), as well as Grant’s intentions behind his Grogu replica’s ultimate use.

A Tour of Grant Imahara’s Shop

Friend and colleague Fon Davis gives Adam Savage a tour of Grant Imahara’s shop, untouched since his passing in July 2020. Tested is honored to chronicle this very special makerspace, at the behest of Grant’s mother Carolyn, before its contents are donated, sold or relocated.

Vacuum Forming Adam’s Signature Hat for Comic-Con

How to Shoot a Zombie Volunteer in the Face Safely

Which weapon is better during a zombie apocalypse: a shotgun or an ax? When the MythBusters took this scenario on, the question then became: How do you shoot a zombie volunteer in the face safely? Well, after Jamie had left for the day, HERE’S the solution Adam came up with.
