Adam Savage’s Mercury Space Capsule Cockpit Replica!

Adam shows off an incredible replica of the Mercury Friendship 7 space capsule cockpit that was a project for his workshop assistants. The intricate details of this replica are true to the original, from buttons to switches to even the printed notes affixed to the console. Let’s pore over all the details!

  1. You really need to chat with Charles Taylor some time. He’s the father of rocket scientist and author Travis Taylor. Charles was a machinist on the Apollo program. They were both primary cast along with Travis’s Nephew/Charles’s grandson Michael, and Rog and Pete, a couple of Travis’s friends, on the TV show “Rocket City Rednecks” I got to listen to a bit of Charles’s stories about dealing with Werner Von Braun at Dragon Con several years ago (between the seasons of the show). The thing of it is, if you just listen to Travis speaking, most people will dismiss him because they’re from Huntsville, Alabama and have the accent to go with it. Travis has multiple degrees in various hard science fields.

  2. An amazing build. Your team deserves a serious “at-a boy” for this project. Especially love the added paper notes and inked on ones. Keeps it from looking sterile. Are there any videos of the build process? Might the 3-D print files ever be made available to us?

Thanks for showing us their amazing work.
