Adam Savage’s Sculpture of a Mechanical Hand!
Adam shares one of his very first art sculptures, which he created back when he was a student at NYU. It was one of the things that he made in his youth that gave him a glimpse of what was possible and the kind of artist and storyteller he would want to become. Enjoy this piece of Adam before he was the Adam we know!

Adam, thank you for sharing this, it rings true in me also. I’m enjoying the slightly less edited moments in the shop and with you conversing with us. Seems more intimate and something more human about it…loving it. Hope you and your’s are staying safe. thanks again. Chis in Western Australia
I still challenge Adams assertion that there is no difference between “Arts” and “Crafts”. I’d say Art is a creative expression of a point of view, and Craftsmanship is the skillful manipulation of a medium. There is always some overlap, but they are two different things Replicating a prop for example could be an amazing work of craftsmanship, but the thing itself wasn’t your idea so it would be “art.” There may be some “art” in the story behind why you invested your time and energy into replicating that thing.
