Tested Builds: ErgoDox Mechanical Keyboards, Part 6

It’s the final day! We’re so close to finishing our mechanical keyboards, and cap off the build with a speed typing race. 1. Please can you bring back the download video option. I’m struggling to get past 15 mins as my video keeps trying to buffer but then fails to start playing again as my connection/download speed is absolute shite. Really been enjoying this build and nearly bought a kit myself because of it.

  2. No, really, solder fumes are not good for you. You should get a couple little fume extractors or find some kits to make.

  3. I can’t seem to edit my comment. I was going to add that when I marathoned the LED cube build it really seemed like Norm started coughing more towards the end of all of that soldering.

Anyway, the race is a really great (and funny) ending to this build, I’m glad you guys took a break to set up the camera.

Also, I’m definitely going to build one of these if I can find one with a normal human layout and not this columnar stuff. And backlighting.

  4. Yupp, even if they just take some close ups with a DSLR and edit in as still at the start while they are going over what components they bought.

  5. Is it me or does editing not work after someone else posts?

I just wanted to add that I wish these would all drop at the same time like a Netflix season. I know Will is against binge viewing but it’s my preferred method for watching these builds. And is the download link gone for good? It seems like there’s a need for it and it would certainly be convenient.

  6. Typing race was a great capstone.

It seems like there a high chance here for immediate regret. Now if only you can tell us if there’s real payoff in pushing through the re-learning phase. Good luck!

  7. Haha this was a great build and I’m always interested in seeing how people deal with troubleshooting. The race at the end had me in stitches, the laughing was infectious haha. I can’t wait to see how much you guys improve after a couple weeks on that layout. I also used to have a couple of those Microsoft natural keyboards but they’re all dead by now sadly. I’m really tempted to try this but lack of build space and lack of soldering skills are daunting.

I found an Indiegogo for a premade Ergodox EZ https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ergodox-ez-an-incredible-mechanical-keyboard#/story which I’m seriously contemplating. Thinking of getting a variety of key colors for border, main and WASD keys also. Damnit, you guys are killing my wallet :-p

  8. Cool build, but I think labelled keycaps are necessary when changing layout, despite how cool you want to look 🙂

  9. Loved the series, especially loved the typing race. Would love to see more of that. Keep up the great work.

  10. Watching Will try to type “problem” was dramatic irony at its worst.

Loved the build, tempted to make one now…
