Premium: Norm’s Lifecast Time-Lapse
Watch the whole lifecasting process, from start to finish, through the lens of time-lapse! Norm had to sit still for about an hour to get this done, zoning out into a meditative state and breathing only through his nose. Definitely not for the claustrophobic.

Curious as to what that stuff all smells like. It’s one thing to feel trapped under all that material, it’s another thing to have to breathe in some kind of funk for an hour!
Some RTV sillicone does smell pretty bad… my guess is they have solved that for stuff intended to be put on one’s face, as it would be a pretty major factor in how likely people would be to choose their brand.
doesn’t really smell at all.
How long did the whole thing take? Was it about an hour, or was it more like 3-4? Either way, looks like it is a long time to have to sit there and not be able to move much while waiting for everything to set up.
YES!!! was driving me nuts!
big fan of Will’s forehead, i get it, im in a make-up studio sure lets get big gash marks on my head, why not.
lifecast takes about 30-45 min. Takes about an hour to prep all the materials, and about 30 min to clean up. Take me about 45 min to cast up the hydrocal positive.
I like/prefer blue Norm!!
Who owns the casts once you’re done? Can you turn around and manufacture Danny DeVito halloween masks if you want?
Probably work-for-hire, meaning the studio or production owns the masks and rights.
Its amazing to watch Norm’s breathing speed up from the point before they start to cover his nose to the point right after. As a slight claustrophobe, I could totally relate
I was surprised they didn’t cover – and he didn’t lose – eyebrows/lashes. Did they do Norm because of Will’s beard? Is it possible to cast someone with a beard?
wow, that green hair! i love it 🙂
yes, i have done life casts of people with beards and hair, and its all fine. Smooth-On makes additives to assist in releasing from hair and a new version of BodyDouble called “silk” that needs no additives because it naturally releases form hair. in the Zoidberg articles i used to to mold my arm (part 2 or 3 i think) and it didn’t pull on any of my arm hair. As far as Norm, the only hairs that came out are the ones that would have naturally fallen out at that time. We chose Norm because he asked for it. HAHAHAHA.
Most things i do, i own the molds and assets after production is finished. But i have no intention of selling any of these.

C. Frank thank you for sharing so much of your time with us, not only the videos but the posts and comments
Thanks for the reply, Frank. Looking forward to following along with your posts in the new year 🙂
That was interesting and really quite a bit more involved than I imagined it would be. Seems to be three separate layers. Can someone explain their purposes?
first layer is for detail, second is just to thicken it, and third is the plaster bandages.
Fantastic video.
I think it would creep me out too much having a bust of myself looking at me all the time.
Who is the soundtrack artist ?
was wondering if anyone else noticed!
Woah. Watching that go around Norm’s nose was pretty stressful!
A fun Premium feature! Glad the video issues got worked out.
Where is the Deus Ex sounding music from? An open audio site I assume?
Love the time lapse eyes on norm
Speaking of video issues it seems the video isn’t working for me. It keeps stuttering. (Safari 7.0.1 OS X 10.9.1)
Do you ever have to abort the process partway through because of claustrophobia? I could see myself thinking this was a great idea, then 10 minutes after covering my mouth randomly freaking out.
Any word on what background music this is?
