Podcast - This Is Only a Test

Episode 391 – On Location in France – 3/16/17

A very special on-location episode of This is Only a Test from France! Norm and Kishore are joined by Joey Fameli as the three talk about their trip to visit CERN and Large Hadron Collider experiments. But first, we have a bunch of pop culture news to go through!

  1. My dad was an engineer and part of the Texas super collider construction team, which was stopped in its infancy by the US Congress. CERN is one of the great science engineering projects of our time. I am glad TESTED are producing features like this. Talk about the ultimate “keep on testing.”

  2. On X-Men films, you probably shouldn’t care about continuity. After the first few it broke down & it seems to be treated as a series of one-shots and what-ifs. Hell, Logan has bone claws by the end of The Wolverine and that is never addressed.

  3. I. CAN’T. WAIT. For the videos. For what its worth, one of my favourite projects you ever filmed was the undergrad research nuclear reactor at a university (can’t remember where). I know with the ScienceQuiche on board you’re getting more science on, keep it up!

EDIT: End of podcast, long form science show. WOOHOO

  4. And thanks for the woo hoos about the science show. Hope it lives up to the standards of the site and its community. Still working on a few episodes, but it should be out soon-ish.

  5. Air New Zealand has a lot more amazing safety videos , they are kind of known for it. Lord of the Rings parody is one obviously. Most are on You Tube

  6. I have a question for Norm and Joey that kind of came up at the end of the show. How do you guys deal with photo and video management, particularly personal photos and videos. What online services do you use for backup? What local storage options?

I’m reaching 15 years of photos and videos and can’t figure out a great way to store them. I’ve tried Amazon Cloud but the Comcast bandwidth limit makes that not the best option. I’ve started Google photos, which is nice for casual photo/video storage, but for the actual raw files, not the best.

Would love to know your practices.

  7. That is why I always go through Kevlavik when going to Europe. Efficient and fast. Although since WOW started the airport food and waiting areas get crowded sometimes.

  8. The Men in Black video on the Air NZ flights, has a bunch of our (I’m from NZ) National Rugby (its a strange ball sport) team, “the All Blacks” as the “actors” in the video. Yes that is really their team.
