  1. 1 eV (electron volt) is the energy one electron gains when it is accelerated by an electrical field with a voltage of 1 V.

    1 eV = 1 V * 1,6 * 10^-19 C = 1,6 * 10^-19 J

  2. So 13 TeV = 13 * 10^12 eV = 2,08 * 10^-6 J

That equals lifting 1 g by 0,21 mm or 1 oz by 0,0003 inches (for the Americans).
I learned that stuff in 10th grade physics 😉

  3. These houses are generally called low energy or passiv houses. Depending on how good the total insulation of the house is. You can get substantial subsidies for building to a low energy standard in germany.

A passiv house has a mean heat consumption of 15kWh per square meter and year or better. Thats about 1,5 liters of diesel or 0.4 gallons for you weird unit folk.

Very roughly 60 gallons per year for a typical house. 600€ per year with green electricity. Or 3 Hummvee tank refills.

What it boils down to is that your “building code” is a joke to us. You build houses like we build garden sheds.

  4. That’s the trusted dubstep intro. It’s been around for a while. Will breaks that occasionally to troll the podcast listeners who dont like dubstep.

  5. Jeremy you’re such a kind-hearted guy. I was bopping my head with you to the intro & when Norm laughs the best smile comes on your face. Hahaha. You’re an awesome, charming dude. Keep coming on the podcast, please!

  6. Cortana is totes always on. Just say “Hey Cortana”. Has to be downloaded and set up in Windows Phone 8.1, but I think it’s default in Win10.

  7. I’m actually a bitter, pessimistic old man now, often verging on misanthropy. I don’t know what you’re talking about. (But, thanks.)

  8. Did Norm really say that the LG G4 has the only camera app he’s used that will let you adjust focus manually? Because the Galaxy S6 can do that in pro mode (slide focus).

I really felt that Will and Norm didn’t understand each other when discussing the Surface 3. It runs full Windows, it supports both the new Windows apps and “regular” Windows programs. You can run the Hulu “full-screen app” (as Will calls it), although I’m not sure if you’d really want to.

Also the Apple Watch discussion is kind of funny. didn’t sell me on it, doesn’t really seem like he’s using it? I’m looking forward to what Will and Norm has to say in their in-depth video. I’m also looking forward to the day tries Android again and Android Wear (he seems so negative).

  9. As i’m in the middle of renovating my house i was going to run some conduit from the loft to where the electric meter is like Jeremy was going to do, I’ll probably put the conduit in anyway jus’t incase it can be used.

I’m not in a position to get solar yet but something that i will invest in the future, And i’m cramming as much insulation everywhere i can.

  10. As you’re all solar fans, the German company SMA Solar Technology has a great online tool for designing your own system. Pick a panel, describe the orientation, select an inverter, describe a load profile, it then uses local solar data to estimate how much power you’ll generate and works out financial benefits over the life of the system. You can use it without signing up too. http://www.sunnydesignweb.com/sdweb/#/Home

  11. Is that a HP Spectre x360 sitting by Will? I’d love to hear to crew’s thoughts on it, thinking of getting one

  12. My point (although not very clear) was that Norm didn’t give a good answer. I think it’s a perfectly good question to ask since people could be confused by Surface 3/Surface Pro 3. I felt like Norm’s answer would only add to that confusion.
