Dave Goelz – The Adam Savage Project – 10/13/20

We’re so thrilled to be joined by Muppet performer and puppet builder Dave Goelz on the show this week to talk about the projects he’s taken on during the past six months. While many of us know Dave from his work on The Muppet Show as The Great Gonzo and other characters, he’s also a lifelong maker and fabricator. Dave and Adam compare notes about their build and problem solving processes and the joy of making things.

  1. that was an absolutely delightful episode! such good energy from all of you!

regarding covid and lockdown productivity, i sympathise a lot with dave. i’m also the kind of at-risk person who, if i get it, we can start digging the hole. so i’ve been cooped up since early march as well. and while i am an introvert and do generally well without extensive people contact, it is increasingly getting to me over time. of course, gym visits have been off since the beginning of my lockdown, but over the summer, i at least managed to go out into the woods by myself to boulder. now that everything is wet all the time, that’s no longer an option too, and i increasingly miss the random bits of interaction i got even in my generally withdrawn life. even more frustrating to think that here in germany, i could be having some sort of a life by now, but we just had to piss away everything we gained because people are bad at being responsible or judging priorities. so yeah, wear your masks, y’all, and don’t do stupid things. parties can be postponed.

productivity isn’t easy to maintain, but i’m slowly working my way through some software tools i wrote for myself a couple of years back, so at least those will be in better shape when life goes back to a state of being possible to happen.

regarding the new podcast format: i’m sure you’re aware and it will straighten itself out once everyone gets accustomed to the different dynamics in these conversations, but i’d love to hear more from norm in these. i guess it’s hard to get a word in edgewise when you’re the third person next to two friends with an established rapport, but i find his questions invaluable because of that perspective. and that’s not to mention his answers, because norm the creative hasn’t featured nearly as much as he should on here. 🙂
