  1. While I’m nowhere near becoming a Dad, this segment has to be one of my favorite things right now. My interest in making things grows every time I listen.

  2. This series is wonderful. I’ve started looking forward to it every week. Keep it up guys! 😀

I liked the bit about letting your kids try semi-dangerous activities. That’s important not only from a creative standpoint, but also a safety one as well. Get your kid a bicycle so that they will learn the dangers of the road well ahead of time of driving a car. Teach them to shoot a bb gun, launch a model rocket, how to start and use a lawn mower without losing a limb, etc.

I completely agree. I love seeing this side of Adam.

  4. Give this feature a name already.

“Words with Adam”? Simple and a mock of the “Words with Friends” game.

Isn’t it obvious that they filmed for a couple of hours when they were there and then cut it into episodes? Will and Norm are wearing the same shirts in all of these, and the Nostromo-crew patch on the desk hasn’t moved =)

Will said something in a previous one about “I’m guessing it will be unnamed for two or three more weeks” hinting at this… so its safe to say that until they have uploaded the ones from this session they will be “untitled”.

  6. I got it. TOASTed. The Official Adam Savage Talk et deux. Et deux meanin ‘and two’ in french. Y’know, Will and Norm.

  7. I wonder if being a gamer yourself would allow the parent to guide the experience of teenage boys playing games in such a way as to avoid the issues Adam has with his two boys (I believe he mentioned that he does not play video games.) I personally disagree that in principle that consumptive endeavors are less worthwhile than creative ones. Any medium we consume has an element of community, and more importantly culture that makes something like Ghostbusters more than 90 minutes of pleasure on a Tuesday. What I’m getting at is that consumptive endeavors can be cultivated, encouraged, and explored at the same level as creative ones. What it requires however is the parenting or other social support/knowledge to make it work. For me that is what I look forward to as a father.

  8. “Savage Reality” Because he rejects our reality and substitutes his own. 🙂

One of my favorite quotes of all time

  9. If only Adam wasn’t a celeb, “Wake ‘n Make” would be an amusing title. I still vote for “The Adam Collider” tho.

  10. I’ve been wanting a 3D printer (and maybe a C&C eventually) because I want my son to grow up thinking that it’s normal to think of some new “thing” and being able to just make it.

I’ve also been catching myself cutting my son’s ideas off because they are either impossible or highly inconvenient. (For want of a better word.) I realized that I was keeping him from figuring that out for himself. So I we got him an “Idea book” that he can write all his ideas down in for us to go over later.

  11. Love this series. Glad Adam’s soapbox is growing – I think he has a lot of important things to say!

For example, the bit at the end about being a geek is about serious obsessiveness. Chris Hardwick at Nerdist says the same thing. The nerd’s mind’s ability to focus is a powerful thing, and it’s all about taking that energy and harnessing it to do something productive.
