Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: New Sewing Machine Station!

Adam welcomes a new sewing machine into his workshop–a powerful Sailrite LSZ-1–by building out a custom table setup for it to include organizational drawers and rolling casters. It’s an upgrade based on the workflow Adam developed for his previous sewing station, and Adam breaks in the new machine by making a heavy duty canvas dust cover for it!

  1. Great choice of sewing machine and nice build. I own a Sailrite LSZ-1 and love it. It is a 49 lbs tank that is almost entirely user serviceable. I kinda view it as the Bridgeport of sewing machines. I do not have the servo since mine is in a travel case, but the servo makes low speed work much more doable. Enjoy the upgrade.

  2. Great build vid! I have the same table set up for my Juki DDL-8700. Curious how the comfort will be over longer projects with the drawers there. Coincidentally, I also have the same issues with the slop in the table frame. I am going to try out reinforcements after watching this video!

  3. Welcome to the Sailrite family! After talking to you briefly on your farewell tour in Eugene about sewing machines I knew you would eventually expand your sewing machine stable. I love my industrial machines- a 1960’s Consew and a “portable” LSZ-1 I can drag around for boat projects. I’m curious to see how you like the working height of your table- it looks pretty high. I’ve found that even a couple inches too high make my shoulders bunch up and hurt after a few hours. Pretty sure you know how to make that adjustment though. 🙂 Enjoy!
