Adam Savage’s One Day Builds: Chewbacca Costume Rebuild!
Chewbacca isn’t just Adam’s favorite Star Wars alien, but it’s also one of his favorite costumes to wear at conventions and for Halloween. After over ten years of wearing this Chewbacca costume, Adam begins the process of updating and rebuilding its parts, starting with Chewie’s feet. It’s a process to foam sculpting that brings out Adam’s hot wire cutter, his favorite high-strength tape, and a lot of hot glue. And after the feet are fabricated, it’s time to give Chewie a weathering pedicure!

Watching the re-do of the feet right now and as a foam-core model builder myself (and avid crafter YouTube viewer) I can tell you a proper mod-podge wash over the insulation foam will harden it quite a bit. If you add black paint to the mod-podge you’ll cover up the pink as well. That can save a LOT of duct-tape use, and weight. I can tell you from my time in Scout & the service that the old adage of “A pound on your feet is worth five on your back” holds true.
