Adam Savage’s Favorite Tools: Chicago Screws

For cosplayers, trading tips and tricks are the bread and butter of the community. One of the best secret weapons for cosplayers are called Chicago screws. They’re also known as paper rivets, binding screws, or binding posts. They come in an endless variety of finishes, depths, and materials. They’re fabulous for attaching armor sections together that can move without nuts and bolts sticking out and scratching you or other parts of your costume!

  1. I absolutely love these segments. Just seeing a wide variety of tools and components is opening new avenues of making. Things I never would have thought of using or that I needed, is now more like: “what could I make that could use this tool or screw?”

  2. These are fantastic. I use them all the time as an alternative to leather rivets. In the past, I have found those to be incredibly unreliable, and chicago screws offer a great option.

  3. Just bought another new home and I have opportunity to do so many fun new.projects in my kids rooms and around the house. Before any project I come to Adam and tested community to get ideas and.knowledge of best things to use. My 6 year old son and I have been planning so many cool new builds. Thanks for so much amazingly valuable information and beautifully put together builds and information videos (one job I miss doing more then anything was editing my friends surfboard building process videos for his company. Close ups, depth focused shots of board shaping…ooo nothing more beautiful then slowing down a video of spraying bored pieces).

Oh and binge listening to your guys podcast is the best part of my day. Especially when you guys guess what will be in upcoming movies that by now have come out. You’ve made some incredible guesses (lots of misses too but hey that’s life, norm is very accurate though)

  4. Skateboarders call them “sex bolts” which, although crude sounding at first, is really just descriptive of the male / female nature of the two halves.
