Adam Savage’s Live Builds: Weathering a Thermal Detonator Kit!

For this live stream, Adam will be weathering the Star Wars thermal detonator kit that he made recently in a One Day Build. Since it’s a machined metal piece that’s chromed, Adam can do some real weathering to the finish by taking a blowtorch to it before adding paint and grime!

  1. Slather any shiny new piece of metal in a loose, clumpy mixture of peanut oil and paste flux, torch it all black, scuff it down and repeat as necessary. It will very rapidly come to look old and crusty as heck and the random discolorations won’t rub/chip off as easily as paint or wax will.

  2. I understand the Vernier calipers come with a depth rod, but the t-shaped end looks like an add on. Assuming for steady place at the top of a hole? Was the t-shaped end custom made?
