Adam Savage’s Maker Tour: Ponyride

Welcome to the 30,000-square-foot nonprofit Ponyride, which houses a diverse group of artists, entrepreneurs and makers who are united in their social mission to improve the city of Detroit. And if you’re wondering about the name Ponyride, it’s explained at the very end of this video, and it’s a sentiment Adam certainly relates to. (This series and tour is made possible by The Fab Foundation and Chevron.)

  1. Adam

I love this series, I am just wondeirng if there will be a report/video/ summing up eveything that you have found. Thank you?

  2. Wow there are some amazing people out there. Give me hope for Humanity.

The jacket/sleeping bag bit at the end is truly inspiring.

Thanks You Adam (and crew) for getting this message out there.

  3. Gabriel Craig is a pretty well known art jeweler. It’s a little strange to see my worlds intersecting here.

  4. Also, I work at a pretty unique (and in my opinion, important) maker community. How do I convince Adam to come see us?

  5. Tested crew: is there a reason you don’t mic up people in these sorts of tours? are they /that/ impromptu and limited on time that you can’t give these folks a lapel mic? I feel like you’re doing these people a disservice by not allowing them to be heard properly either over background noise which can often times be louder than their voices or just in general where the title card ends up being like 5x louder than the volume at which everyone speaks. maybe at least do some audio editing to increase the volume of people talking and be on the lookout for sudden loud noises and cut those down when they happen.

  6. Maybe try getting in touch with Kristen Lomasney. Not sure if her email is listed on Tested, but you can find her contact info with a bit of googling 🙂

  7. Hey, there, thanks for your comment. I actually produced and directed the maker tour, and we had an audio tech on every shoot including this one (we always list all the crew in the credits). We did boom mic the Resurgo gentlemen because they were a last-minute addition and we were running out of time, but if memory serves, we lav’ed everyone else. We saw some complaints about audio on the Incite Focus videos (shot by the same tech that same day) and tried to address them in the Ponyride edit; sorry we didn’t quite fix the problems. Your point is well taken — audio is really important. Sorry it fell short!

  8. As a kid growing up in the 1960’s Detroit, I am so happy to see this video featuring Ponyride. And please go to New Mexico to check out Institute of American Indian Arts and many other worthy non profits in The Land of Enchantment.
