Adam Savage’s Maker Tour: Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

Adam visits the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, where he learns about how they nurture the interests and skills of the very youngest makers. While there, he also sees the PERFECT tape holder (that he later replicates for the shop) and learns how to operate a loom for the first time! (This series and tour is made possible by The Fab Foundation and Chevron.)

  1. I think Randy Pausch would love this Museum! Right around the corner from Carnegie Mellon University.

  2. Pittsburgh is amazing and I hope to get myself over there. I also wish that Mr Roger was around to explain things to Mr. Trump.

We were asked to talk about museums in our area. Living in DC means that it would take forever to visit each museum every weekend. Many, many small museums. Cherry blossom festival is about to begin, for natives, this means that the big museums (e.g., Smithsonians) will be packed. I’ll wait until September to check them out.

My favorites – for Smithsonians, Native American, plan to visit African American in the off-tourist period (really hard to get tickets). I check out the other big museums when guests show up. The Newseum is good as well as the the National Building Museum.

  3. What a lovely space. Dig the textiles approach, some of my earliest maker-memories are of embroidery and sewing. Embroidery was one of the first times I learnt by making something from existing plans and then figuring out my own designs using those skills.

Love this series so far, can’t wait to see more 🙂

  4. Anything that exposes kids to the hows and whys of making things is a really good thing.

Now– that kid in the orange shirt reeeally wanted to meet Adam. Did he?

  5. I was there, but I don’t actually remember if he met Adam (we shot at FIVE locations that day!). But when we do these maker tour shoots, we take photos with everyone after wrapping, so it’s very likely he did.
