Inside Adam Savage’s Cave: Indiana Jones Bullwhip
Adam shows off the Raiders of the Lost Ark bullwhip he braided by hand. Learn why it was such a labor of love to make this whip from a single piece of kangaroo hide, and how this whip is a little different than the one Indiana Jones uses in the movies.

True. The vast majority of end-users do purchase their next phone by the hands on in the store. They could care less really about the specs. If it feels good in their hand; and they don’t have to read an instruction manual; and it just works; they’re happy.

Very interesting and impressive.
As soon as I saw this video I was hoping in the end they would go outside and show Adam cracking the whip especially after they talked about the noise it makes. But sadly this did not happen. 🙁
Awesome video though I love seeing Adams creations/collectibles. 🙂
So lets say you were in the desert searching for an arc or something. Would you need to oil and clean the whip pretty often to protect it from dust & sand?
Impressed by the craftsmanship, but too daunting to ever try myself.
Excellent video, as always.
That mirror on the back wall is freaking me out! 0_0
They did a whip cracking episode on Mythbusters once. If I remember correctly, he did try to crack this whip and couldn’t. The length of the thing would make it very difficult to do so.
Awesome that looks amazing, I am impressed it only took a couple days.
Amazing super supple whip. I’m surprised by how much of the Indy whip info I knew from an episode of Pawn Stars. Would laser cutting a pattern be cheating?
For a first whip, that crazy.
I hope that Jamie dose a video at some point.
That’s legitimately cool.
I love how Adam can spend days meticulously building a bullwhip from scratch but then pays for someone to make a simple glass case for it LOL, classic.
Listening to Adam talk in detail about crafting stuff is always really interesting.
Tested is my only source for whip sniffing videos.
He made that in one day? That’s pretty amazing. And now I know dust is bad for a whip. I’m pretty sure that knowledge will be put to good use some day.
His hair coming forward with his hat like that reminded me a lot of the beginning of Crusade.
SCREW THE HATERS.
I think Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is pretty good.
Lovely craft work, and for the record, I’m in favor of “shop” instead of “man cave”. The men I learned to make and fix things from all had shops. I’m old, but not old enough that any of them had actual caves.
It really is amazing how pretty something useful as a braid can look. I’ve spliced line and done some lashing, and they also look very nice when they’re done well.
It’s simple: Adam just needs to build a rig to crack it.
