Inside Adam Savage’s Cave: The Zorg Industries ZF-1

Tested takes you inside Adam Savage’s man cave where he keeps amazing movie props and collectibles, as well as works on his own projects. Today, Adam tells the story of his Zorg Industries ZF-1 replica from The Fifth Element, which he’s been working on for over 13 years.

  1. This was awesome; the build quality of his ZF-1 recreation is really cool. I find it crazy how much info people can pull from screenshots of a movie and put into a replica.

  2. Yes it is! I think they are off tour now so should have some time for tested vids and articles.

  3. Very cool to see Adam in this video. I’m really looking forward to seeing the whole crew putting together content for the site. Someone stop me if I’m wrong but that’s what this redesign is about, right?

  4. Really cool video – I like how Tested is starting to become a weird mix of building weird things (Will’s Third Person Camera, Adam’s ZF-1, Lego building etc.) and weird and nerdy stuff (weird apps, cameras, coffee gadgets etc.).

    Thumbs up, guys!

  5. Any time Adam talks about his projects I am completely entertained. Watching him talk about stuff he is working on and have worked on makes him seem human over the over-the-top Mythbuster actor. This is great stuff! Keep it up Tested!

  6. I remember watching the Fifth Element on the big screen and on VHS but never digital (DVD or Blu-ray).

Seeing this makes me want to order the Blu-ray.

  7. It’s weird, but after getting reflexively angry about Tested being reskinned and getting Jamie & Adam’d I find myself looking for more Adam Savage content with great anticipation. I mean, I’m still not happy with BermanBraun over how they treated Matt Rorie, but it seems like Tested is just a better version of Tested (albeit with fewer site features and a personality-free logo).

  8. That was incredible. Now a Jamie man cave, or stache cave.. or whatever he is calling it now 🙂

  9. FINALLY! A video with Adam in it.

As someone else has said lets see more of the “man cave”.

  10. Hey, it’s Will and Norm’s Adam Savage!

Seriously though, this is a good direction. Looking forward to more hot collabo’s with all the site’s personalities.

  11. Hooray, finally they’re earning there keep a little, I hope we get to see a lot more content from them now that they’re off tour.

  12. You guys need to set up a camera in Adams little workshop 24/7, he has the coolest stuff! Can’t wait for the other videos.

Some sort of Bungie Webcam esque set-up would be awesome.

  14. i’d figure Adam can get the actual one from the movie using his connection. but then again, it’s more awesome that he made one by himself.

  15. That was great. I’ve been looking forward to these types of videos since the new Tested launched. Keep up the great work.

  16. Good video. Looking forward to more of these. Since the Whiskey Media family broke up, Norm and Will have seemed kind of lonely (except for Gary on the podcast of course). I hope to see more collaborations like this.

  17. Never, ever refer to anything as a man cave again.

I adore the fact that this is the first comment.

  18. Cool video! I want more like this.

I think it would take me about 100 years to get anywhere close to building something like that. Aw, who am I kidding? I could never do it.

  19. Oh, man. I was obsessed with this gun as a kid. Made it for my Lego men and stuff, great to see I wasn’t the only one. Also crazy to see such a soft spoken Adam.

  20. Good video. I was really hoping for a “For Tested I’m Norm.” “And I’m Adam.” at the end. The stuff that Adam, at least, has posted on the site has been good and I’m hoping that, now that the tour and everything is over, we’ll get more content from them and more video with them in it soon. So far, they seem very hands off with the site which is, in some ways, good, but in other ways, it makes having their names and faces plastered all over the site a little bit of a bummer given how little they contribute to it.

  21. I love it!

Always wanted to get into replica building, but I have neither the equipment nor the patience.

  22. i’d figure Adam can get the actual one from the movie using his connection. but then again, it’s more awesome that he made one by himself.

Well, I think Adam summed it up very well at the end of the Dodo-talk, “achieving the end of the exercise was never the point of the exercise to begin with, was it?” =)

I believe it’s not about having the actual gun, although I’m sure he’d love to, its about trying to piece together the best possible one using your skills, while sharing and comparing your work with others who are as inspired as you are about the object.

  23. Never, ever refer to anything as a man cave again.

Yea, let’s avoid that term as much as possible going forward.

Yea, let’s avoid that term as much as possible going forward.

    How about the “AMC”?

  25. This is not a Prop!

    This is a real gun!

It is the prototype for what they are calling the Soldier Integrated Precision Effects Systems (SIPES). This is being developed by the Canadian Armed Forces, the Defence Research and Development Canada (Canadian equiv of DARPA) and Colt Canada.

As a Canadian, I am not sure if I should be impressed, or scared that we are developing arms like this one!
