Medium/Large format & pro digital cameras!

  • Here is a place to talk about such beasts ;-)

It seems, digitally speaking, large format cameras are a bump in megapixels, to the 50-100MP range. But as with point and shoots, Im wondering if the sensors themselves are no better than the peak of pro-am DSLRs in the $3,000 to $5,000 range.

Anybody wanna link to photos or wallpapers made from them?

Would it be worth someone like Norm's time to rent one of them for Cosplay photography?

  • @boocreepyfootdoctor: Well, actually pixel count is the least of the bump with medium format, the biggest being the much lower noise thanks to the significantly bigger photosites (40x55 versus 24x36 for a slight bump in pixel count), light/color range...

And you'd better hope that a 10 times greater price is worth it, otherwise no one would use them.

For photos, I'd advise you to browse FlickR, but it'll be very difficult to find something full resolution (well, there are, but a lot less than crapy stuff) because, well, that's pro gear, so they sell their stuff, and don't give it away; plus it's gonna be mostly studio work, as that's where they really show the most their prowess. But you can start there.
