Making the Custom Microphones for Hamilton!
We continue our tour backstage at the San Francisco touring production of Hamilton with a visit to the audio room, where assistant audio engineer Adrianna Brannon gives Adam an overview of what it takes to build, maintain, and manage the dozens of microphones used in the show. Adam also gets to check out King George’s crown! Thanks to the team at Hamilton SF for being so welcoming during our visit!

Love the throwback After Dark Flying Toasters screensaver on her computer.
Truly a fascinating video. All of these have been fun, but this one was a real eye-opener. Adrianna Brannon is definitely a savvy technician!
THANK YOU!
I held off watching this video because I didn’t think it would be something I would be interested in, but now I’m in lockdown I figured I’d give it a crack and now I am totally regretting not watching it straight away!
That twiddly tool (which took me a while and a bit of googling to realise she was saying “whip finishing tool” (non American here)) is freaking awesome and now I think I need one but I don’t know what for!
I use those sleeve stretcher tools though for protecting soldered wire joints on connectors and they are great for that. For longer neoprene sleeves, we use small pots with a sponge soaked in a little mineral oil to dip the tips of the tool in and that works a treat.
Love this! Microphone work is so fascinating, love the other one with Adam’s glasses as well and would love to see more versions for run and gun work / documentary.
That whip finisher tool too… just awesome!
