How To Make a Custom Neon LED Sign!

For a recent wedding anniversary, Norm embarks on making a custom LED-lit display that looks like a neon sign. Follow along as we guide you through the process of taking a hand drawn image like cursive text and turning it into a laser-cut display using off-the-shelf flexible LED lights and some patient soldering and wiring. The finished effect looks convincingly like a neon tube light!

Batman (1989) Original Batwing Restored!

Adam Savage visits Prop Store to check out some of the thousands of original movie props and costumes that pass through their archives, including this incredible quarter-scale filming miniature from the 1989 Batman movie! This is the iconic Batwing model that was used for climatic flight sequence, restored to original working condition to showcase the practical motorized and lighting effects that were actually used in the film. It’s one of the coolest pieces of prop history we’ve seen, looking like it flew right out of the silver screen!

Adam walks us through how to draw and implement a wiring diagram to incorporate simple electronics like lights and fans to your cosplay and props. Electronics can be an intimidating part of prop building, but they can be kept simple and implemented without any soldering if you use off-the-shelf components like wire nuts and alligator clips to test your setups. Adam gives a demo of his personal electronics process using a foam helmet by adding lights, fans, and a power switch!

Infinity Mirror Mysterio Display Case Build!

Our latest laser cutter project has us using a few new materials in our toolkit, including one-way mirrored acrylic and COB (chip on board) LED light strips to make a infinity mirror display case worthy of Spider-Man villain Mysterio. Follow along as Norm works out the design of this display case diorama to incorporate elements appropriate to the character.
