Tested Goes Hands-On with the Nintendo 3DS

The 3D effect was so lifelike, we could almost smell it. Plus, augmented reality!

Holy interlacing.

Damn Norm, you seem all gitty and excited. Also you sound stressed out being rushed along. Take a breath or something lol. That honestly was the most entertaining part. Also I think augmented reality is gonna be a big hit since it gained popularity so fast when it hit smartphones. Great concept I just think it sill needs a little more polishing.

Oh god, interlacing. Still a good video for content.

Once I get the 3DS it'll count as my 3rd DS purchase, wow love'd the hands on couldn't really see the screen but you definitely explain it well it enough so that could know what's like! I like the mariokart effects with the stars, nintendogs + cats seems awesome, augmented reality ( I want naow) 3D movies even more awesome a good way to kick 3D glasses away. If price is below $200 a must buy. I really like the placement of the stylus, and from seeing it, it looked more like it had a DSlite feel and look, which I hope the final design looks like.

I do have a.. bit of a :/ with the 3DS closed and the way it looked idk :| but still freaking awesome!

Awesome and informative. Plus, look at all the hottieeees!

But yes, very excited about the 3DS. I sold my DS Lite in anticipation of the DSi XL, but now I am waiting for the 3DS instead. I will have a great backlog of games to play along with all of the new ones!

@Dante_the_Jedi:@dvorak:  sorry about that! we're re-compressing the video to fix it.
Rolentoon June 17, 2010 at 5:58 p.m.
I couldn't care less how much it costs.  I'm buying one on day one, and probably taking a week off of work  ;)
Newtenon June 17, 2010 at 6:05 p.m.
Oh man so jealous you guys got to mess around with one, I want to see one in action SO bad >.<
FakePlasticTreeon June 17, 2010 at 6:22 p.m.
God...the 3DS is the most excited I've been for a Nintendo product since the SNES.
Light_Bahamuton June 17, 2010 at 6:22 p.m.
Remember the original DS on display at E3 five years ago? Or was it six years ago now? Thing was so fugly. Nintendo hardware design has come a long way.

I love this quote.

@mostwanted: They explicitly wouldn't let us shoot the screen, which I understand, since the 3D effect would probably look really bad on video. They're going to have to set up demos of this thing in stores so people can try it out. It's really really impressive in person.

Video appears to break at 3:35, can't watch beyond this point nor skip to beyond this point.

@CommanderZx2: it's working for me. maybe reload?

@CommanderZx2:@AHR:  doh, looks like the video fix didn't encode properly either. switched back to interlace-y version, and will upload a new fixed version.

@norman: It's working now, thx

Thanks for doing this guys!  So for me the big questions are:

1.  Was it more going "into" the screen than going out?  You mentioned on Nintendogs that only the head seemed to pop out, and on Mario Cart only the sparks came out, what about the enhanced reality ones?  I ask because I prefer the idea of 3D INTO the device versus out of it.
2.  Did it hurt your eyes?
3.  As a non-DS owner is this a launch pick-up or a "Wait to see what games are coming" before buying it?
4.  "Slide Pad" or the Analog however you want to say it.  Did it feel good?  The Giant Bomb guys seemed to like it.
5.  2D mode, did that seem clear?  I.e. does the 3D technolgy when turned down to 2D still seem to be "there" or is it completely gone and off?  I ask because my buddy is one of the Cyclopses we mentioned before E3.

Thanks in advance!
