Internet Explorer's New Ad Taps Into 90s NostalgiaBy Norman Chan Following up on its "The Browser You Loved to Hate" campaign, Microsoft just put up this fun ad for Internet Explorer 10. It's a callback to the icons of the 90s: trolls, tamagotchis, bad haircuts, and even pogs (remember those?). The idea is that you--generation Y--grew up, and now IE has too. And even though IE still holds over 50% of browser market share (with Firefox and Chrome both hovering around 20% each), that distribution is likely skewed very differently for younger users. But if Boy Meets World can make a comeback to TV, maybe nostalgia is a good strategy for Microsoft marketing. What say you, Gen Y?
