AT&T and Motorola are teaming up to rock the super phone world with the launch of the Atrix 4G, which will touch down on March 6 in the US. Priced at the usual $199.99 with two-year contract sweet spot, the Atrix will quickly jump to the top of the heap as AT&T’s most powerful phone thanks to the dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and 16GB of internal storage. Of course, the real story is the webtop experience we went hands-on with at CES 2011.
and tethering subscription. That means you’re looking at a mandatory $45 a month for data if you buy the bundle to grab that laptop dock as cheaply as possible. The dock will be available separately for a flat $500 without any subscriptions attached. As Will found out at CES, the laptop dock is pretty cool, and gives you an 11.6” WXGA screen to play around on with a built-in battery that can recharge your phone. Is it $500 cool? Questionable.
Along with the laptop dock, AT&T will offer a $190 Entertainment Access Kit that includes a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, a remote control and the Motorola dock for the Atrix. The phone will likely be the second device launched on AT&T to support AT&T Mobile Hotspot after the HTC Inspire 4G, which launches in mid-February.
Depending on what you walk away with, the Atrix has the potential to be an affordable or ludicrously expensive smart phone. Will the laptop dock be worth it at that price?
