Netflix Rolls Out User Profiles

By Norman Chan

Up to five profiles per account.

It's no secret that everyone shares Netflix accounts, and that's OK. Netflix's terms of service lets families share streaming accounts within a single household, but so far all activity and recommendation is lumped under a single profile. Netflix announced today that it has starting rolling out a profiles feature to its website and will soon update apps and third party players to support it (though strangely, Roku wasn't mentioned). Up to five profiles can be created and associated with a unique Facebook account, and each profile will have its own recommendations and instant queue. It's a good start, but I have a feeling that the five profile limit won't jive with some users.
