Speaking of hardware that's being retired, both Asus and Acer have announced that they've ceased production of netbook-category computers. That means once remaining inventory is sold out, the netbook revolution--cheap, lightweight, ultra portable, low-power computers--will be over. You can thank tablets and Ultrabooks for that, though as Harry McCracken points out, cheaper and smaller Ultrabooks may eventually fulfill that niche, even if they're never called netbooks.
