Introduction and New Sales Data
Apple notebooks rank number one in the US in market share for the past 3 months--27%.
Last quarter, Apple sold 17 million iPads, a record for the company. Total of 84 million iPads sold to date.
iPads account for 91% of web traffic for tablets, even though the iPad "only" has a 68% market share in tablet sales.
The iOS app store has crossed 700,000 apps, including 250,000 iPad apps. 90% of these apps are downloaded at least once every month.
The average iOS user has more than 100 apps downloaded.
Through June, over 400 million iOS devices sold.
iPhone 5
Announced!
The iPhone 5 is made entirely of glass and aluminum.
The thinnest iPhone yet. 7.6mm thick. Approximately 18% thinner than iPhone 4/4S.
Weighs 112 grams, which is 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S.
4" screen, 1136x640 pixels, same pixel density (326ppi) as the 3.5" screens on the iPhone 4/4S.
Updated software for a 5th row of icons on the home screen.
Reworked Apple apps to take advantage of the increased vertical space. eg. 5-day workweek in Calendar in landscape mode.
Existing apps aren't stretched. Black borders added to each side.
New display has 44% more color saturation than iPhone 4S (full sRGB color spec)
33% thinner display with improvements to integrated touch sensors.
Less glare in sunlight.
iPhone 5 is a world phone with LTE. Single radio chip for voice and data. Dynamic antenna to switch connection types.
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, with n at 2.4 and 5GHz, up to 150Mbps
iPhone 5 runs on a new A6 chip--2x faster CPU and GPU than the A5, with die shrink of 22%. Based on ARM Cortex-A15.
Battery life is improved over the iPhone 4S. 8 hours of 3G talk time and browsing, 8 hours of LTE browsing, 10 hours on Wi-Fi. 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music playback with screen off, and 225 hours of standby.
8MP camera Apple is calling iSight. f/2.4. Hybrid IR filter, five element lens. dynamic low-light mode.
"Precision lens alignment" for increased image quality.
Photos capture 40% faster.
iOS 6 recap: shared Photo Streams, also adding automatic Panorama stitching in software, only for iPhone 5 (up to 28MP photo).
Video at 1080p, same as iPhone 4S. Improved image stabilization, and you can save stills (unknown quality) while shooting video.
Front camera is 720p FaceTime HD with backside illumination and face detection.
Three microphones: one on bottom, one on front, one in back (between camera lens and flash).
Speaker now uses five magnet inducer instead of two-magnets. Also smaller. "Wideband" audio.
New connector, called "Lightning". Can be plugged in either direction. 80% smaller than 30-pin dock connector (8-pin design). Not magnetic like Magsafe.
Apple will sell a 30-pin to Lightning adapter. Adapter looks about the same size as the 30-pin SD card reader. $29 for adapter or $39 for cable adapter.
Comes in black and white, with silver finish on the back.
Same price as iPhone 4S. $199 for 16GB on two-year contract. Pre-order Friday Sept 14th, shipping on Sept 21st.
iPhone 4 8GB is now free on contract, iPhone 4S is $99 with contract. iPhone 3GS discontinued in US.
iOS 6 update on Sept 19th, free for iPhone 3GS (or newer) and iPad 2 (or newer) owners.
(No surprises, no NFC.)

Redesigned iTunes store on all iOS devices. Part of iOS 6.
iTunes on Mac and PC updated, with iCloud support. Redesigned mini player. Still the hub for all your iTunes media and iOS devices.
Available for download in late October.
iPod Nano
Seventh generation Nano with really large/tall (16:9) display, thin and light design, and lightning connector. Looks like a small iPod touch/iPhone. It even has a home button.
5.4mm thick, the thinnest Nano yet, but still has physical volume and playback controls.
2.5" touchscreen with multi-touch for photos.
Widescreen video.
Built-in pedometer and Nike+.
Bluetooth support!
30 hours of music playback.
Seven color options.
16GB model for $150. One capacity only.
Available in October.
iPod Touch
5th generation iPod Touch, with 4" screen like the iPhone 5 (apparently same display part).
6.1mm thick, weighs 88 grams.
Made of anodized aluminum. Solid aluminum back (not reflective).
Runs on A5 chip.
5MP camera with backside illumination. Sapphire crystal lens cover. Panorama feature.
Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (dual-band).
Airplay mirroring enabled.
Siri enabled.
Available in five colors.
New earbud design: "EarPods".
Starting at 32GB for $300, 64GB for $400. (4th gen iPod touch still in stores, 16GB for $200, 32GB for $250)
