Ouya Hitting Retail in June

Kickstarter backers should get their units in March.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman confirmed that the $100 Android console is on tract to ship to over 63,000 Kickstarter backers in March. The crowdfunded console raised $8.5 million in its wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, partly due to its attractive price (the console itself is only twice as expensive as an extra controller, and it includes one). Another 5,000 pre-orders from the Ouya website will ship in April, though the disparity between the number of consoles sold through Kickstarter and through the official site shows how powerful Kickstarter is as a marketing tool. Traditional retail outlets like GameStop, Best Buy, and Amazon will also sell the console starting in June, just in time for E3.
