Neal Stephenson Wants to Make Sword-Fighting in Games Not Suck

By Will Smith

Enter Clang, a motion controlled sword-fighting arena sim for PC, from the guy who brought you Snow Crash.

Whether you intend to support his Kickstarter or not, the video Stephenson made stumping for it is worth watching. It's clever and exceptionally well done. Click continue reading for more details on the project.

Stephenson doesn't want to make a complete game with this Kickstarter, at least not yet. It will launch as an arena fighting game, using Razer's Hydra controller, which measures both orientation and position in 3D space using a weak magnetic field. The arena game is really just an excuse to build the toolset that other developers will need to add realistic sword fighting to their games.
