Everything You Need to Know About the HTC Incredible

By Ryan Whitwam

Big Red is about to get a killer new Android phone. We have some details.

April 29th. Happily, the recent leak of the full instruction manual gives us all the important details on the handset. One thing is immediately clear, if you are a Verizon customer that's been waiting for the Nexus One, you might want to think twice. The Incredible looks like it matches the Nexus in most ways, and bests it in others.

The Incredible will sport a 3.7-inch AMOLED 480x800 resolution touchscreen display, much like the Nexus One. In the place of the Nexus' trackball, the Incredible has the optical trackpad HTC seems to be smitten with as of late. The new Verizon handset will also have an 8MP camera with dual LED flash. The Nexus one only has a 5MP camera, but the upcoming Sprint HTC Evo 4G has the same 8MP cam.

The internal hardware is similarly impressive.

On the software front, the Incredible will be running a 2.1 (Éclair) build of Android with HTC's fabulous Sense UI. HTC Sense makes the entire experience of using an Android phone seem more put together and feature complete. They also tend to do a lot of optimization for the specific hardware, so we expect this phone to be blazing fast. Sense brings much needed features like a smart dialer, additional home screens, and an enhansed widget framework. With new additions to HTC Sense like the social media aggregating Friend Stream, we're even more stoked to get our hands on one.

jive with everything else we've been hearing. As soon as Verizon makes an announcement, we'll probably get a price as well. But the $199/2 year contract price point seems to be the sweet spot for a new smartphone these days. Even if the Verizon Nexus One is available tomorrow, Big Red users would do well to give the Incredible some consideration before mashing that Google 'buy' button.
