I like the idea of this small magnetic camera mount project on Kickstarter. The Statc is a aluminum pod with a ball head and magnetic base that can attach small cameras (under 2 pounds) to any strong metal surface. Its creator claims it works well with mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras, smartphones (with something like a Glif), and portable video cameras like the GoPro. The ball head swivels 360 degrees and can be locked in place with a tension knob, while the rare earth magnet is sandwiched between two plates of steel and cushioned with a plastic lining (to avoid scratching surfaces). This looks ideal for getting a steady low-ISO long-exposure shot on the street--for example sticking your camera to the top of a parking meter instead of resting it on a stranger's car.
Statc has 28 days left of fundraising, and a $60 pledge gets you a unit when it ships in August.
