The Sights and Sounds of Supersonic Flight
Russian pilot Artur Sarkisyan works with the aerobatic demonstration team Russian Knights (the Russian equivalent of the US Navy's Blue Angels) to mount cameras on their planes and film incredible videos of their exercises to post on YouTube and Vimeo. For this video, he developed a special GoPro rig to weld onto panels that fit onto the vertical stabilizer fin and wing of a MiG-31 Foxbat. The result is high-definition footage of supersonic flights at over twice the speed of sound, with audio recorded from the GoPro's microphone. Sarkisyan has posted photos and information about the building of his camera rig here.
