Google Now, Everywhere

By Norman Chan

Likely coming to desktop and iOS.

One of the best features of Android Jelly Bean is Google Now--the passive predictive search assistant that displays information that Google thinks is relavant to your interests, location, and daily schedule. Right now, it's limited to Android phones and tablets, but Chromium updates and leaked videos indicate that the feature will make its way to the desktop Chrome browser, Chrome OS, and even on iOS as an app. I think the service works better as a passive notification pane that pops up at opportune moments--like local traffic when I leave the office--and on iOS, it may be served better as an integrated part of the already awesome Google Search app. Google would be smart to not wait until I/O for this release.
