It's turning out to be a pretty big week for 3D printing and modelling. We saw the Smithsonian announce its X 3D website to share 3D models of some of its collection with the public, we have the triumphant return of the MakerBot Mystery Build, and MakerBot wants to put a 3D printer into every school. Yesterday, Autodesk also launched a massive update to its popular 123D Catch app for iOS, bringing compatibility with iOS 7 and a slew of new features. The photogrammetry app (which is still only for iOS and web, not Android) gives better guidance for taking up to 70 photos of your subject, and then automatically stitches those photos to generate a textured 3D model that you can upload and edit on its website. This video gives an overview of everything that's new in this release.
