We're back in the office after a week away in New York visting hackerspaces, the Enterprise Space Shuttle, MakerBot's Botcave, and World Maker Faire. Video from the trip will be rolling out in the next few weeks leading up to this year's Octoberkast 24-hour charity podcast, for which Will will be announcing details soon. Catching up with last week's news and awesome-things-on-the-internet brings up the following video from last year showing the gas dynamics of two pistols firing underwater in a custom-made tank. The footage was shot with a Vision Research Phantom camera--probably an earlier model of the ones used by the Slo Mo Guys (you'll want to watch their latest video too).
The flow fields created by pistols firing underwater are also illustrated in these two posts by the Vuurwapen firearm blog. This was done with hollow point bullets to show the incredible "flowering" effect of the expanded projectiles.
