The Story of the Very Large Array
Jodie Foster narrates this tour of the NRAO Very Large Array, the system of 28 radio dishes in New Mexico that collect radio signals from space. The VLA was one of the locations used in Foster's movie Contact, in which she receives an alien signal originating from the star Vega. "Created in 2013 as the new interpretive film for the National Radio Astronomy Observatory's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) public Visitor Center, this 24-minute production explores the synergies of technology and human curiosity that power the world's most productive radio telescope." Currently, the NRAO and its facilities have suspended all operations due to the Federal government shutdown.
