The Mundane and Terrifying Effects of Surface Tension

By Will Smith

The most mundane problems on earth are potentially life-threatening in space.

Astronaut Luca Parmitano wrote the most terrifying thing I've read this month. It's not about alien abductions or spinning off of the ISS into the void. It's about surface tension. He describes his experience on a recent EVA, which was aborted when his helmet started filling up with water. If you think that doesn't sound particularly scary, you should just read his post. Surface tension is a nightmare in microgravity.
