The Simpsons is one of the few TV shows I love enough to watch the commentary of. Hearing the producers, animators and writers just talk about how an episode comes together is really fascinating.

EDIT: And just as I post this they started talking about the Simpsons.

@Toxeia Yeah I just looked up the documentation for SPAN and like you said it says you could only monitor ports in the same VLAN, which doesn't make any sense to me.

How's your configuration looks right now that you've made some changes to it? Is it something like:

monitor session 1 source vlan 10

monitor session 1 source vlan 20 (and so on)

...

monitor session 1 destination port fa0/X (the port to your IDS)

Sounds like something you could solve with Switched Port Analyzer(SPAN, or Remote-SPAN rather). You select any number of VLANs, direction of traffic(receive/transmit) and mirrors all packets of those VLANs to a single destination port that has your IDS on the other end.

Really cool stuff, especially the rocket one!
