@Shivoa: Yeah, I figured it was something along these lines, but I didn't know what the appropriate name for these type of jacks was.Does anyone know where to get an adapter that I can plug my 3 ring jack into that will give me a standard 2 ring headphone jack as well as a (mono) mic jack that I could at least use for skype chat and all?

Well the microphone does not work at all, but I didn't expect it to since as far as I know at least most laptops don't support the mic being on the same plug as the headphones. However, it also seems that if the cable is just right, it doesn't want to output as much to the right side as the left. I'm thinking it may be reading the mic as ...

I have a set of headphones that have one of the 3 prong jacks with the mic on the wire. It works lovely with my phone, but not so great with my laptop and I was wondering if someone knew of an adapter that would split this into a regular stereo plug as well as a microphone plug?
