Nice job, Will. Glad you found something that works for you. I'm bummed you simply disregard paleo as a fad diet, though, and maybe even more bummed that style of eating got labeled as such and cornered into a sort of fad diet appearance. I've eaten largely 'paleo' for about 2 years, and I'm in the best health and shape of my life. There's really no arguing with that; it's my objective experience.
The truth is, healthy fat (not ALL fat; there is indeed unhealthy fat, like refined seed oils, margarine, corn fed beef fat, etc.) simply doesn't contribute to body fat, unless of course you were to simply eat excessive calories from that fat, but that goes for all food anyway. Carbs, and more specifically sugar, contributes to body fat gain more than anything else. And there seem to be new studies coming out practically everyday to support that and warn of the dangers of sugar and excessive carbs.
Gluten, too, is undeniably unhealthy. It essentially acts as an inflammatory agent on the body, even to supposedly non-gluten-sensitive people. I never thought I was gluten sensitive or intolerant, but after giving it up, my life-long problems with IBS and acid reflux simply vanished. I really just don't suffer from those conditions anymore, and they used to be a real problem. General bloating and gaseousness is significantly reduced as well.
I'm always hesitant to promote more 'paleo' style eating habits, for fear of coming across as an evangelist. But that's always how it is for proponents of newer things that eschew some aspects of convention, isn't it? Backlash from people who have never lived differently from what's conventional is unfortunately expected. They often get defensive, like it's some sort of assault on their traditions. But it's really not; it's just a different take on this whole eating thing that's undeniably sent the American populace into a tailspin of unhealth; a way of eating that's more in line with nature. What's more natural than meat and vegetables (essentially the crux of the whole paleo idea)? Who could possibly have a problem with that?
@leem101: Indeed. Personal responsibility and self discipline go a long way. If only more people would exercise those qualities. Voting with one's wallet really would solve this particular issue; if no one bought bad food, the megacorporations that produce that food would rapidly lose the power to produce it in the first place. Unfortunately, doing so requires some degree of knowledge about nutrition on the public's part, and that is precisely where the government could and should step in to make that knowledge more common and accessible. Too bad, though, that government has about as much interest in the perpetuation of General Mills' products as General Mills does. This is why it's ultimately a matter of personal responsibility and nothing more. You can't trust anyone but yourself to not shove McDonald's down your throat.
Good episode, guys, although audio levels were a bit all over the place. Now I really want an episode with Loyd and Brad!
Yeah, I ain't gonna lie, I think it's really shitty and sells extremely short the original personalities of this site who made it what it is and continue to expand it. Still love Tested though!
Yeah, I've been listening for a while, and the quality has definitely decreased progressively, with more frequent breaks and annoying radio crap like that. It is an actual radio show, broadcast on electromagnetic waves and the whole thing, hence the structure. I just love me some Tyson, so I've learned to put up with it, but yeah, it sucks.
I really like me some Chrome, especially since I'm regularly going between two Macs and a PC. All the syncing stuff and the single environment across devices, as Mike said, makes it the most obvious choice for me, and kinda the only one for that matter, as I became quite disenchanted with Firefox a while back. But I gotta say, Chrome should really adopt color coded tab groups. That sounds fucking awesome.

It's already well past midnight in large chunks of the world, so amageddon is half over. Funny I haven't heard anything.
I believe it has yet to happen, it is not at the passage of a certain day but at this winter's solstice.
I'll be very glad when it is finally over and people will stop talking about it. There are no end of the worlds planned up to 2040 or so i believe after this but i'm sure that someone will come up with something new.
Don't get your hopes up too soon! There's always Apophis with its 1 in 250,000 chance of hitting Earth in 2036.

Dunno if it's already been mentioned, but I can't seem to open links in the forums in a new tab by command/control clicking them. Opens in the same tab.
Btw, latest Chrome here.
Fixed, same with image links now. You can open in new tab or new window.
sweet, nicely done!

@Organicalistic_: That's Win8 upgrade version. Unless you already have an XP, Vista, or 7 license to install on the new machine, and that you plan to to upgrade to 8 later, I'm pretty sure you have to get a full license.
@Organicalistic_: Why buy so high for the PSU? You can get a nice modular 750W for way less than that. Also, go with that 8GB RAM kit, rather than two individual sticks to save a little money, and while it won't make any real world difference, you might as well go with 1600MHz memory, as it's supported by default for Ivy Bridge. And I think that $50 Win8 is only an upgrade. As far as I know, the standalone install disc is more like $100.
@Organicalistic_: The 840 failure problems seem to be resolved now. I'd say it's a safe buy.
And your motherboard, PSU, and case will come with all the necessary cables.
Welcome! Agreed, blockheads is the best choice.
Also, Giant Bomb dot com? What's that?
@Organicalistic_:
Fans: with that case and a single video card, I'd say no, you're fine. You don't necessarily need that CPU cooler unless you plan on OCing considerably above 4GHz, but it's so cheap, why not.
Parts: all seems fine, but you may want to actually consider a Caviar Blue drive for your secondary storage, as the Black can be quite loud, and it's only a bit faster, probably not noticeably so for just storage. Also, if the price is within your budget, go for a newer 840 Pro SSD over the 830, or even the regular 840, which is cheaper, but still faster than the 830 in most cases.
Sound card: it really depends on use, and can be a hard question to answer simply, but here, I'll try: no, not for just a gaming machine.
The 212 should come with thermal paste, and with the stock Intel cooler, it's already applied.
The 670 should be perfectly great with the vast majority of games. Some games run better with AMD, some with Nvidia--depends on the game. Look up game benchmarks and compare the 670 to the 7950/7970 to see if there are any specific games you know you'll play a lot of that run better on one over the other. For example, if you're gonna play a ton of BF3, probably go Nvidia.
@Rallier: This is precisely why the site was redesigned.
Also, longer forum thread pages! Awesome! My scroll wheel finally has a purpose on Tested again.
psssstt press the testaclees icon at the top right next to the facebook icon
Thank fucking god! I was about to go all nerd rage and get pissy, but fortunately I bit my tongue and read the post first. Yes, good move on the header! I'm goin' blockheads all the way. Site looks awesome, guys!
Also, images! Yes!
@CannonGoose: Does your CPU have integrated graphics? Maybe try enabling them if they aren't already in your BIOS, then taking out your GPU? If the problem persists still, it's probably your GPU I guess. Then maybe reinstall it in a different PCIe slot. I don't know, I'm kind of just spitballing here.
@ngdavis: A cursory Google search said that that laptop has a subwoofer (HA!), in addition to two regular speakers. The sub level (could be called LFE, so look out for that) or bass level, if there's any EQ settings, could have been cranked up somehow, creating a low-frequency buzzing whenever a sound is played.
First, go into your audio settings and check the levels while playing something to make sure nothing's going into the red. Then, listen to this for a test. As the voice goes from 10Hz to 200Hz, listen for the test tone underneath, and listen for the buzzing. If you hear the buzzing (or test tone, for that matter) anywhere below 90Hz, the subwoofer could very well be the issue. Or I'm totally off here, ha.
Also, get rid of that Norton! It's likely a resource hog, and probably a nagging nanny of a pain in the ass too. Use something lighter, simpler, less obtrusive, and less resource intensive (and free) like Microsoft Security Essentials.
