Occupying a massive 20,000 square foot building at the Highland Mall, the House of Torment is a top-of-the-line scare factory that uses some remarkably futuristic technology. Most haunted houses operate on a trigger system – sensors in doors or floor plates cue effects to go off. The House of Torment instead wires their entire facility with infrared video cameras, which broadcast footage back to a central control room. In that room, trained operators manually control many of the haunted house’s most terrifying effects, able to time them to elicit maximum shock.
