Windows 8 Tablet

  • I haven't seen anything regarding the windows 8 tablet yet, is it still expected to come out this fall?

When will we be seeing them; know what the specs are?

  • There is no one specific Windows 8 tablet. Microsoft is working with multiple partners in creating Windows 8 RT tablets.

The minimum requirements of a Windows 8 RT tablet are the following,

    • Five point touch screen
    • Power button, rotation lock button, Windows key, volume rocker
    • UEFI
    • Bluetooth 4.0
    • 720p camera
    • gyroscope, accelerometer, speakers, magnetometer
    • 1366x768 resolution
    • 1 USB 2.0 port

Windows 8 RT tablets will be launching alongside Windows 8 this fall.

    • 1366x768 resolution

That's the main thing I wanted to know, this resolution seems like a mistake in a post ipad3 environment.

    Thanks

  • @Werupenstein: You need to consider that resolution in context though. Windows 8 isn't just a tablet OS, it's an OS that'll be on everything that has Windows. The resolution of 1366x768 has only just become the most popular screen resolution in the world. It doesn't make sense to have a higher resolution as the minimum requirement.

And that's just it. This resolution is a minimum, not a maximum.

  • @Falcon: What does a Five point touch screen mean? Does it mean I can use it to draw with a pen, like a Nintendo DS, or is it fingertouch only, like PSVita or iPad?

  • Do you think we will also see Windows 8 Slates around then too? as in NOT running the ARM version of Windows, but instead the full version.

  • @Tailzo: Five touch points means exactly that; it detects a maximum of five points touching the screen.

@Rogueski: You can buy x86 tablets right now.

  • @Falcon: Yeah but do you think we will see new ones that are specific to Win 8? Maybe Ivybridge powered?

  • @Rogueski: Of course we will.

  • I've read about a new Windows 8 tablet, Vaio Duo 11. It comes with a stylus!

Does this run the x86 verion of windows 8 or the arm version? I'd love to use my existing software on it.

  • @Tailzo: It's an Intel machine.
