  • Came across this pic of Jamie, Adam, and Rick Santorum!...

  • Welp, I guess that political podcast will literally never happen now.

  • I really wouldn't read too much into that photo. People get their photos taken with politicians all the time, even if you don't support or like that politicians agenda. I really don't like any politician in the United States, Democrat or Republican, but I know if I had to take a photo with them I would most likely do so.

Not to mention Jamie and Adam are clearly pro-science. As a matter-of-fact, they are probably the antithesis of someone like Rick Santorum in terms of belief in the supernatural, giving creedence to a religious text, and the existence of a god or gods.

  • I wonder what context that photo was taken in.

Also given that Adam Savage has been a pretty outspoken atheist, and wikipedia lists Jamie as one as well, though I can't find any public statements supporting this I find it hard to believe they were on team Santorum.

"This INSANE pic was @ his request. I told him "Your politics are diametrically opposed to mine". Then we took pic."

    karma please, wait...

  • So Adam decided to bring politics into it? Could it be that Santorum is just a fan of the two? My lack of total respect for Adam Savage somehow became significantly less than it was before reading that.

Um, Santorum IS a politician; he by his career choice brings politics into everything public he does. And Adam and Jaime are both celebrities with significant following. Making it clear the photo isn't an endorsement valuable for people to know.

This. I get that some people not have an intolerance for anything mythbusters because of the site issues, but I am sure letting Santorum know up front he is not into his politics, and then lettings his fans no on twitter he made sure everyone knew he wasn't endorsing him in anyway.

  • @lebkin ,@YoThatLimp: I get that warning his fans was a prudent thing to do and I agree, but walking up to him and saying that flat to his face seems like a douche thing to do. Which isn't surprising for Adam at all. Adam walks around claiming "science this, and science that" and neither he nor Jamie would know real science if it walked up and kicked them in the teeth. They shot to fame blowing shit up on cable TV and have tried to capitalize on that fame as promoting science and being some kind of ambassador for it. It's a phony act and they both know absolute dick about it. Adam doesn't know a goddamn thing about science, he's a model maker and a TV presenter. Anyone who has watched MB knows this. Saying to his fans that he doesn't endorse Santorum and it was nothing more than a photo op is a smart thing to do, but to walk up and say that your politics are opposed to mine and then give them the Chesire Cat smile is just dickish. Yes, I can't stand Adam and I have very good reasons for it none of which have anything to do with the site being sold to them. I can't stand Santorum even more before I get accused of that.

  • @HKZ: Actually, if you look at the twitter feed, Santorum approached Adam and requested the photo. Adam explained a possible issue with his politics, but Santorum wanted the photo anyway. Adam could have declined the picture, but he clarifies to a fan that he preferred to be civil about it all.

I think you might be reading too much into this situation. Possibly because it involves two people you don't care for.

  • Hell, I'd take a picture with Charles Manson if I ran into him at a dinner party.

    Wow...... me too o.O

  • @Conmused: Yes I know, my disgust for Adam and the fakeness the man oozes and uses is clouding the issue. Refusing to take a picture with a man because of his politics is just as rude an offensive as the mans politics he dislikes. I'm probably blowing it out of proportion though it is one more reason not to like Adam. He's almost intolerant of an innocent picture. It's his freedom to make that decision and it's my freedom that I don't have to like him for the way he acts. :)

  • @HKZ: Really? I wouldn't even shake Santorum's hand. His views on several issues are completely repugnant.

  • Would you get your picture taken with Hitler? I wonder if Gary Whitta would..

  • @SpikeSpiegel: His politics are extremely disgusting, I agree. I'd never seek the man out to talk to him, but I'd be professional about it if I were in Adams shoes. Adam isn't so special he can't be polite.

  • @HKZ: I do not think you understand the situation, and you are really speculating a lot on the situation based on a couple of tweets and a picture.
