With all the Apple talk going on today, I decided it was better time then ever for me to speculate myself on a future product. I own an iPad 2 and a Macbook Pro 2011 version and the new upgrades look staggering so far this year. Unfortunately, I won't be upgrading these two products for quite a while. Especially since they are new and fresh for me. However, one product I will upgrade this year is the inevitable iPhone refresh. As my contract will allow an upgrade in a few months and around that time, if not earlier an update would be announced like every year before. What exactly do you think would be in it? Do you think they will up the resolution of the screen as with all these other Apple products trying the same thing? If not, what do you think will be the defining feature and all the following features that will be added?
Retina is the big thing, next iPhone will have to remain a retina display but question is will they increase the screens physical size or if they keep with the 3.5". I can't really see them keep to the 3.5" size personally and if they increase the screen size then the resolution will need to be upped to keep that ppi over 300.
4.5" screen will require a 1152*768 resolution (307ppi)
5" screen will require a 1280*854 res (307ppi) - 5" screen would be huge but would suit the iPhone 5 moniker (specially since Apple now own iPhone5.com)
This is of course only if they are keeping the 3:2 aspect ratio. I wonder what the liklihood of an aspect ratio change would be, would love to have a 16:9 aspect ratio phone for watching stuff on, I'm already strongly considering the Samsung Galaxy S III for that sexy 4.8" 720*1280 screen.
The entire market is starting to move in that direction, I don't think Apple have a choice to be honest. I think next announcements will be iPhone 5 and a smaller iPad (7" like Norm wants).
The leaked photos look pretty hot. I'm due a upgrade on my iPhone 4 in September, so the rumoured September 21 Launch suits me just fine :D
What do we think they'll call it? iPhone 6 is probably off the cards since The New iPad was not the iPad 3. So are we looking at The New iPhone? As in, just "iPhone"?
I'm currently off contract at the moment but want to wait for the new iPhone and Windows Phone 8 before deciding... I just hope I don't fall into the same abyss that Brad Shoemaker has.
As for what they call it, I'm going to say iPhone 5. Even if it's not called that officially, it's what it'll be called by everyone else (3, 3GS, 4, 4S).
Yes, I know that but why would they go from an iPhone 4S name to iPhone 6... it would just confuse consumers who would continually ask, "What happened to the iPhone 5?".
I don't understand why everyone cares that it's the 6th generation phone, but called the iPhone 5. Did everyone get their panties in a knot when the Xbox jumped 359 numbers on the second generation? Nope.

@stenchlord: As for me, I don't know how I feel about larger phones. I've grown too accustomed to the size of the iPhone 4.

iPhone 5 has been out since October. There's no speculation to be had.
@AwesomeAndy: wakka wakka
I think the evidence for the larger screen is compelling, but I won't believe it until I see it. NFC is a sure bet.
Since I don't really care much about hardware iterations; what will be the 'big deal' feature? Like Siri last time. Something with NFC?

Looks like a 4" screen could be very likely.

@stenchlord: You, um, missed the iPhone. It's Six.
@Jensonb:
What?
@stenchlord: iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S. It's the sixth iPhone.

They wouldn't. That's why it will be announced as The new iPhone and be iPhone (Sixth generation) on technical documentation.
iPhone 5
