I am home for the weekend from school and my dad wanted to go get the new iPhone. So the question is that my dad travels fairly a lot and he needs to get a car charger, I was looking at some on amazon and people were saying that it did not work for the iPhone 4S. So I was wondering what the community uses or if they know that anyone works. I do have a AT&T iPhone charger that works with my 4 and will try that once my mom gets home. (It's in her car I don't need it being at school) Thanks in advance!
I'm not really sure what you're looking for, but pretty much any 12V -> USB stuff is going to do the job, as long as it's not something that really looks way too cheap. The problem usually lies in the cable. Apple's cable have some properties (can't zero in on it yet) that allow the iDevices to recognize as OEM cable, therefore allowing charging or even the fast charge. So, as long as you use the right cable, virtually any cigar lighter to USB stuff is going to do the job perfectly.
I use a Kensington dual USB... whatever they call it, but I think I bought mine from Amazon around $15 (bought 6 just to be sure I'd always have one handy). It barely sticks out, so you can leave it in the car all the time, not a problem, and it works, so, what else can you ask from it?
I also bought one of those, basically, you have a battery in addition to a USB charger, the battery alone can recharger the iPhone around 50% (understand: it adds 50% of charge to the iPhone). So this one might probably the right one for your dad.
You could also check autozone, they have some stuff too, plus it's not like you really need a reason to go there, right?
