I'm an avid Chrome user. I prefer to take a look at all sides when it comes to stuff. And yes, I like Firefox and Opera. But do not get me started on IE. I swear that it has to be the dumbest thing ever. I know many will agree with me and I'd like the flaming kept to a minimum, but I seriously hate it.
As for why I like Chrome, it seems to use the least resources and load the quickest. Yes Opera loads very fast, but do you know why? It loads up in it's own order. I've noticed that it skips the larder files on pages and just loads the main page. Then it gets to images and videos. That's almost cheating to be the fastest. Chrome also has many, many nice extensions now and tons more on the way.
Safari, but only on OSX. I hear bad things about it on Windows, so I'd expect most people to use Chrome over there for a minimalist browser.
IE is just...ugh. Can't stand it. I don't need much else to say except that it breaks web pages. Firefox is really slow and bloated on the Mac, I like my browsers super lightweight. Chrome...it just...doesn't do anything that Safari doesn't, and I don't want to be locked into google for my search engine. (I have a plugin for Safari that fixes that same problem, probably could do the same on Chrome). It's pretty similar to Safari, I'd probably use it on Windows if I used it as my main OS. Opera seems perfectly acceptable, but it's not quite as lightweight as Chrome or Safari, which is really all I am looking for.
I used to use FireFox, but I left it after it took well over a minute to start. I thought I was really locked in by the plugins/extensions. Turns out not so much. The deal just got sweeter as Chrome has since gained extension support.
@Addfwyn: o_O Actually, you can just pop into the options on Chrome and change the search engine to ANYTHING! I changed it to Swagbucks once to get easy points on that site. That is why I love it so much. It's just so open and easy to use. But then it's technical, too. The extensions and skins. Highly customizable.
I know what you mean about Firefox being slow on Macs. I don't have one myself, but on my girlfriend's computer I feel like I'm using dial-up on a computer with 1GB of RAM. It's sad.
Safari is... not my thing. My girlfriend uses some weird one on her Mac.
Opera is fast and nice. I'd say it's on par with Chrome and if you say Chrome and Safari are about the same, I'll take your word for it.
I started using Firefox initially because of its ease of use and the add-ons. Now I just use it out of habit, even if there's some other (probably better) browser icon sitting right next to it in the dock.
I'm glad to see these results thus far. My main goal was to see how many people don't use IE. I just like to know that Microsoft can't take over everything.
Chrome for most of the reasons mentioned above. I remember when it was first announced and I was like, wtf Chrome that sounds pretty stupid but now I dont even think about it. Extensions have really given Chrome life now.
Most of the people who use IE wouldn't be people on this site. They are the people who use their computers to check e-mail or maybe even play some Farmville/check Facebook. Tech-savvy crowds really aren't going to be using IE. It's the people who don't even realize there are alternatives, and hear "Internet Explorer" and assume that is how you explore the internet.
@Addfwyn: Haha. Good point. I'm sorta hoping to find a tech-savvy person that uses IE and then I want to ask them "Why?". What reasons could they have for doing it? I can guess that if this thread is here long enough, someone that is "tech-savvy" will come along and be using IE. That is, if it can display this site properly. =P
