  •  If you haven't heard, there's a Smurf-based movie coming out soon.   And no, I'm not shitting you either and no you are not high (well, maybe you are but it's not altering these sad facts).

If you need proof, go here:   http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472181/

Anyone else really dislike The Smurfs?  As in they annoy the shit out of you?   You find them to be a sad facet of your childhood and the 1980s?  Just wondering.

    MY THOUGHTS
I used to watch The Smurfs in the 1980s.  Even then I realized as a kid I really didn't find much appeal in it.  Sadly, as it was the 80s, and nothing else was on at 10AM on a Saturday morning, I had no other choice.  There wasn't much to do under the circumstances then.  And low and behold, now in 2011, I get wind that some greedy, with limited talent Hollywood types are taking a dull, one-dimensional, repetitive cartoon show and into a modern, most likely bland CGI-infused film.  Best part of this shit-fest fiasco... putting the Smurfs and Gargamel into modern day New York City.
  • After seeing the trailer, I predicted The Smurfs will be the worst movie of all time. I stand by that prediction.

  • Its in 3D how can it possibly be bad?
My parents wouldn't let me watch them as a kid so whenever I could watch it it was awesome just because I was watching it. But I cant really remeber if they were any good though. But in general it is best to leave the 80's cartoons be 80's cartoons.
  • Didn't even know about this movie. Granted, I don't watch television or see kid's movies in the theater...

    ...wait...

...the smurfs is a Belgian cartoon. Shouldn't this take place in Brussels or something?

They've got some serious competition, but I agree. This movie can definitely pull off being the worst of all time.

  • @BaskervilleManor: All that movie does is reaffirm my hate for studios that cash in on any remotely recognizable franchise that they can get their hands on. I've got no love for the Smurfs (in fact, I more or less forgot they existed for a good 10 years or so, right up until that trailer came out), but I can recall watching shit like Samurai Pizza Cats when I was small; because of that, I'm not sure if I can judge the quality of (at least the original) cartoon.

For the movie, I think Screened put it best.

Hundreds of people came together to make this film. I hope they're all proud of themselves.

Agreed strongly! I learned one thing from the trailer: Fans of the original cartoon are gonna be heartbroken!
  • They look like the sort of elite race Hitler wanted.

  • Looks terrible......IN 3D!

I liked the show when I was a kid but this one can stay in the past. It's the same old Hollywood exec formula = Gen Xers will take their kids to see this crap for nostalgic purposes and to expose their kids to the stuff they watch when they were young. There is a near endless supply. Stay tuned for Thundercats, He-Man, Voltron, etc....

  • Smurfs + Michael Bay !

How awesome would that be ?
