Star Wars?

  • So... I am an 18-year-old male, but I have not seen any of the Star Wars movies.

Now, do these movies hold up? As someone who has grown up with blockbusters like the Star Trek movie, Tron: Legacy, Avatar, etc, will the Star Wars movies seem dated?

How do they hold up? In terms of narrative and visual effects.

So, if I do decide to watch them, which movies should I watch? I think I have a pretty good idea of what to avoid because of TIOAT.

So, what should I do, Tested community?
  • Star Wars is my biggest fandom.  I watched them on VHS when I was a little kid, and saw the special editions in theaters.

I would reccomend getting the Non-Special Edition if at all possible.  It definitely seems dated, in the way anything shot in the 70s seems dated.  The film stock looks different, the acting is different, the hairstyles are different.  However, I feel like watching it now, you can just chalk a lot of that up to other-worldlyness.  The wonderful thing about the original star wars movies is they create a really rich, detailed, universe that you believe extends beyond what's happening on screen.  They are awesome.  Watch episodes IV-VI and enjoy!
  • I more or less enjoy them all seperately like if you pretend episode 1-3 is a parralell dimension that lossely connect to 4-6 I think you can enjoy them with less dissapointment
  • I really like the visual style of the world in Episodes 4-6 (the original three). It's something that just wasn't the same in the newer movies; the older effects technology, mostly because everything was real props and models, added a gritty, unique feel to it. Also, they're entertaining movies. I suggest you watch the Episodes 4-6 first, then 1-3.
  • I've never been a big fan of Star Wars, though I don't think i've seen them all. I go more for the hard sci-fi stuff than this force bullshit.
  •  I have not seen any of the Star Wars movies.

I've never been a big fan of Star Wars

what in the fuck HAS THIS WHOLE WORLD GONE CRAZY

I'm in relatively the same boat, but I have been forced to see part of Episode III on the way home from scout camp in 06 or 07, I literally threw up while watching it, all over the kid in front of me...  Who's to say whether it was because of the mountain roads or the shitty movie?

I will see 4, 5, and 6 at some point.  I keep hearing about movies I've meant to see from This is Only a Test.  My friend said he would lend me Zoolander and some of the Star Wars movies several years ago, but he never did, and I haven't seen him in about 6 months.  I will not be seeing 1, 2, or the rest of 3 ever I think.  I saw part of 1 when I was about 6, just the pod or whatever race thing.
  • ok so here is what you are gonna do:

you fire up netflix if you are from the usa and you buy the starwars movies and start watching in this order 4,5,6,1,2,3 report back if you are done.

ow and if you are not from the usa you just download these movies, that is unless you livce in france cause if you do that there sarcozy will come to kick youre as of the net.

    see you after starwars duder!

  • I'd say that Ana summed it up nicely.
