  • Hey tested crew! I am looking to buy a new TV, and I (with the help of the wife) have managed to narrow it down to 2: http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/sony-bravia-kdl-46ex723-full-hd-46-led-3d-tv-09759049-pdt.html http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p50ut30b-full-hd-50-plasma-3d-tv-10417109-pdt.html Now, the problem I have is which is better, the LED Bravia or the Plasma Viera. I am wanting the Viera as the refresh rate is way better (I know the refresh rate means different things based on wether is a LED, LCD or Plasma) and its a larger screen. But a friend said get the Bravia, but 100hz seems low, and I tend to watch lots of action and will definately play PS3 games on it. Can anyone give me some advice?
  • I'm no expert, so keep that in mind. I'm basing this off stuff I've researched or been told when I asked similar questions.

My understanding was that for gaming a plasma is better, but for watching movies and stuff, LCD is better.

The Blacks on a plasma are way blacker than on LCD, it's really nice to look at, and the colours pop because of it. You don't get that on an LCD. If you're in a room with any kind of sunlight, the glossy Plasma screen is gonna be an issue. I believe that the plasma is more susceptible to ghosting with fast action on the screen, but I could be wrong.

My LED LCD is 120Hz, and I had to turn that shit off. It was way too hard to look at, hard cuts and the image just didn't look natural. The TV is filling in frames to make it look better, but for me,I would have preferred sticking with a 60Hz TV.

To be honest, the size would be the thing for me... If I could have a 46" TV or a 50" TV, and I had the space, and wasn't worried about sun glare.. I'd buy the 50" TV... because, well, 50" is bigger :D

  • @sw0rdfish: I thought it was the opposite and people only said that LCD was better for gaming because of burn in which is no longer a problem.

And op, we have a Panasonic G20 50" and it's gorgeous, I'd recommend a Panasonic Plasma over pretty much any LCD/LED and after having a plasma, LED just look washed out comparatively.

Hard to argue with this. My friends all use Plasma. I'd have bought one, but our condo has floor to ceiling windows, which is an issue. I prefer the sun though, so we go LED LCD :)

  • thanks for the advice guys! went to the local store to buy the plasma and...they had no in stock at all, anywhere. I so I went for the Bravia, but that was gonna take a week to come and was the next model - not a bad upgrade! Then I discovered a new LG 46 LED Smart 3d TV and it is beautiful and just £50 more, so think I am gonna go with that! I just have to convince the wife now! Also, TV quests are hard...
